Free Download Manager in Linux

After switching my main machine to Linux I’ve been missing some old Windows friends. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Free Download Manager works in Linux Wine. I achieved this after I was informed about the winetricks script which fixes a number of common problems that stop many Windows applications and utils from running.

EDIT: FDM also needs this fix (see last comment).

With a tweak IrfanView works as well.

This is very good news for me as I was spending quite a lot of time in Windows. There are some very good solutions like aria2c or d4x and phatch, but like anything, they take some time to get used to, so it’s essential to have what I know to hand.
