White Rock, Mars: MRO Image is Further Evidence for Bacterial Formation

I followed this in the late 90’s when various images came out of this formation via Mars Odyssey (Themis) and Mars Global Surveyor (MOC). I recently found the source of the research comparing the formation with Earth lake formations laid down by bacteria.

So I followed this up. Here is an image of the formation as seen by MRO.

Here are examples of the bacterial formations taken from the research paper (above).

Notice the similarity in the way both formations have been laid down. There is a definite similarity. A lumpiness in the structure of the Earth and the Mars formations. Although not definitive confirmation of bacterial activity on Mars, I think the comparison adds to the case made by the paper.

We’ve already had multiple confirmations of present and past water on Mars as well as the “blueberries” found in great number by the Mars Rovers that show another close comparison to Earth. In that case to the Azurite and Malachite Nodules (spheres, balls) that are from the Morrison Formation, Earth. So the context is there for the conclusions of the research paper to one day be confirmed.
